I. Background
The International Bamboo and Rattan Organization (INBAR) is an international intergovernmental organization that promotes environmentally sustainable development using bamboo and rattan. It has 51 Member States. In addition to its Secretariat Headquarter in China, INBAR has Regional Offices in Cameroon, Ecuador, Ethiopia, Ghana and India. With most of its Member States from the Global South, INBAR has played an especially strong role in promoting South-South cooperation for the last 25 years. Since its founding in 1997, it has been making a real difference to the lives of millions of people and the environment around the world, with achievements in areas such as raising standards; promoting safe, resilient bamboo construction; restoring degraded land; capacity-building; informing green policy; and advancing Sustainable Development Goal objectives.
II. Responsibilities:
- Provide the assistance for the events organized by INBAR, including the China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS), the Council Session of INBAR, and events of UN agencies home and abroad etc.
- Support in translation and preparation of materials for any events organized by INBAR from Chinese to English and vice versa;
- Help with the communication and coordination with the strategic partners for facilitation and implementation of the signed Memorandum of Understanding;
- Provide administrative support to the Department of External Relations and Partnerships, both in daily routine and event/travel preparation;
- Other responsibilities may be assigned by the supervisor.
III. Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in English interpretation, translation, communications, international relations or other relevant subject;
- Excellent English writing and speaking skills. IELTS above 7 with no sub-skill below 6.5;
- Internship experience in international organizations will be an advantage;
- Knowledge and interest in sustainable development, forestry, and climate change; and
- Self-motivated and well-organized with the ability to work independently and efficiently to meet deadlines.
